I think it was a critique of whatever events were occuring during the writer's time. The Wild Beast was Rome, the Harlot was Jerusalem. 666 was Nero. I believe when Peter wrote from Babylon, he was actually speaking about the original whore, Jerusalem.

Trainspotting-greatest film ever
Lost In Translation- I can watch this over and over again, reminds me of my life as it was, and what I'm currently experiencing.

There's a side of me that can understand where you're coming from on the blue collar enviroment affecting your speech and attitude. I did a thread sometime ago I believe, or maybe I posted my experiences from working in Tool/Die Shops, other manufacturing settings. During those years, I was in my late teens to early twenties, and I was very impressionable back then. Hormones were already on fire, and I had got into the bad habit of cursing already in high school. Getting out of the manufacturing enviroment and into a white collar office has improved my attitude and speech. I can understand where you're coming from by wanting the JW acitivities and lifestyle to offset the poor behavior you're exposed to at work.
I'd say though if you were having thoughts of buying a gun, and easily intimidated at work, then I'd say you need stand up for yourself. Even as JW, I've only let nonJWs push me so far before I offered them the parking lot for us to settle our differences. It's the funniest thing in the world when you catch a grown man by himself and get right in his face and let him know what time it is. You don't even need a gun for that. If its too far gone of a situation for you, I'd say get another job and let this situation prove to be a learing lesson for you to never let this happen to you again.
I don't want to accuse you of anything, but there's a side of me wondering if "dost protest too much" regarding your generalization of what worldly people do. I don't smoke, drink, go to the club, yadda yadda yadda........If your depiction of what nonJWs do were accurate, Jehovah would have cremated this planet a long time ago. You'd probably be toast as well considering that you're into pornography.

17 paragraphs 9 - 11 which weren't brought out that i feel needed to be touched on.
as was brought out in his thread this article told jw's to avoid apostates because they are " mentally diseased " allegedly and to avoid their web sites, not read their literature, watch t.v.

That's a new angle huh Flip, so not only are the apostates sick and mentally diseased, not to mention spiritually contaminated..........their stories may lead the unsuspecting to frivilous pursuits that will ultimately lead to pointless research? Wow, that's an entirely new angle, so instead of just focusing on potentially shipwreck, considering that time=money and money=time, its economically unfeasible to waste one's time investigating apostate claims.
Imagine that for a moment, don't investigate apostate claims because its a grand waste of your time!! Ok, but, what about all the time I wasted studying and preparing for the Book Study and the Watchtower Study, so I could give a good comment, and keep up on current doctrine, only for there to be new light a year later, nullifying everything I believed to be accurate the year before? Did I waste my time on the previous Generation teaching? Affirmative. Did I unreasonably feel guilty when I brushed off the Tuesday night bookstudy after so much emphasis was placed upon it as the most important of the meetings, only to see it done away with a year later and included in the midweek meeting along with the Service Meeting and Theocratic Ministry School? Affirmative.
The WT is full of crap.

My life is pathetic. Medicare aged people with oxygen tanks have more exciting lives than me, but that's ok. I'll tell you why, its because I'm waiting on the real life, that's right, the real life that Jehovah's Kingdom is going to bring! Even though we're not in a physical paradise right now, we have the spiritual paradise that only can be found amongst Jehovah's Witnesses as they obey the Jonadab class making up the faithful and discreet slave.

The Bible is full of violence.Why are JW's told to avoid anything related to it then?
by XPeterX inin exodus jehovah killed the egyptians.ahud stabbed eglon in his abdomen,people in a city (don't remember which one) would eat their own children,jw's back then sacrificed their babies to moloch and the list goes on.so why jw's have to avoid books,music,movies which contain violence?
